What is Seretide Diskus 50/250 mcg?
Seretide Diskus 50/250 mcg is a dry-powder prescription inhaler device containing two synergistic active ingredients: Salmeterol (50 mcg) and Fluticasone Propionate (250 mcg). Designed for regular daily maintenance, it works to optimize lung airflow and reduce chronic inflammation. It is primarily used for:
Dual Action Airway Management: Combines Salmeterol to relax airway muscles for long-term openness with Fluticasone to reduce swelling and irritation inside the lungs.
Asthma & COPD Maintenance: Provides regular daily prevention against wheezing, chest tightness, and shortness of breath in patients with asthma or COPD.
Not a Fast-Acting Rescue Inhaler: It cannot stop a sudden asthma attack or acute breathing crisis; always carry a fast-acting rescue inhaler (such as salbutamol) for sudden symptoms.
Device Preparation: Hold the Diskus flat in one hand and slide the thumb grip until the mouthpiece clicks into place. Push the lever away from you until it clicks to load the dry powder dose.
Inhalation Technique: Breathe out fully away from the device. Place the mouthpiece securely between your teeth and lips, and breathe in steadily, quickly, and deeply through your mouth.
Breath-Hold: Remove the Diskus from your mouth and hold your breath for 10 seconds (or as long as comfortable), then breathe out slowly.
Post-Inhalation Rinse: Close the Diskus. Always rinse your mouth with water and spit it out after each use to prevent fungal oral thrush and throat irritation.
Standard Prescriptions: Typically taken as 1 inhalation twice daily (morning and evening), or strictly as prescribed by your pulmonologist or physician.
