What is Gentamycin Eye Drops?

Gentamycin Eye Drops contain gentamicin sulfate, an aminoglycoside antibiotic. It is used to treat:

  • Bacterial conjunctivitis (pink eye)
  • Eye infections caused by susceptible bacteria
  • Infections following eye injury or surgery

It works by killing or stopping the growth of bacteria, helping to clear up infection and reduce redness, swelling, and discharge.

How do I take Gentamycin Eye Drops?

Wash your hands before use. Tilt your head back and pull down the lower eyelid to create a small pocket. Instill the prescribed number of drops into the eye. Do not touch the dropper tip to the eye or any surface. Close the eye gently and press the inner corner for 1 minute to prevent drainage. Use exactly as prescribed.

 

What dosage do I take?

The correct dosage of Gentamycin Eye Drops depends on the severity of the infection and your doctor’s instructions. General guidelines are:

  • Adults and children: 1–2 drops into the affected eye every 4–6 hours
  • In severe infections: May be used every 1–2 hours initially, then reduced as symptoms improve
  • Duration: Usually 5–7 days or as prescribed
  • Not to be used for viral or fungal eye infections
