Description
Lonart is a fixed-dose anti-malaria (artemisinin combination therapy), containing artemether and lumefantrine. It is used to treat:
- Uncomplicated malaria
- Malaria caused by Plasmodium falciparum
It works by killing malaria parasites in the blood while stopping their growth and spread.
Take Lonart with food, preferably a fatty meal to enhance absorption. Swallow the tablet whole with water, do not crush or chew. Take the medication at evenly spaced intervals and complete the full course even if symptoms improve. Always follow your doctor’s instructions or the product label.
The correct dosage of Lonart depends on your weight, age, and medical advice. However, general guidelines are:
- Adults and children over 35 kg: 80/480 tablet(s) initially, Another 80/480 tablet(s) after 8 hours, then 80/480 table(s) twice daily for the next two days
- Dosage is adjusted by weight for children under 35 kg
- Not recommended for self-medication or prevention of malaria without medical supervision
Lonart may cause some side effects.
Common ones include
- Dizziness
- Headache,
- Weakness,
- Loss of appetite and abdominal pain.
More serious and rare side effects include:
