What is Naproxen?

Naproxen is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). It is used to treat:

  • Joint pain and arthritis (osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis)
  • Muscle aches and back pain
  • Menstrual cramps
  • Headache and sprains

It works by reducing the production of substances in the body that cause pain, inflammation, and fever.

How do I take Naproxen?

Take Naproxen after meals with a full glass of water to reduce the risk of stomach irritation. Swallow the tablet whole do not crush or chew. Take at the same time each day if prescribed regularly. Always follow your doctor’s instructions or the label directions

What dosage do I take?

The correct dosage of Naproxen depends on your condition and your doctor’s advice. General guidelines are:

  • Adults: 250 mg to 500 mg twice daily after food
  • Maximum: Do not exceed 1,000 mg in 24 hours unless directed by your doctor
  • Not recommended for children unless specifically prescribed
