Description
Tretinoin is a topical retinoid derived from vitamin A. It is used to treat:
- Mild to moderate acne
- Skin discoloration and sun damage
- Fine lines and rough skin texture
It works by speeding up the skin’s natural renewal process, helping to unclog pores, reduce acne breakouts, and improve skin tone and texture over time.
Wash and dry the face gently before applying. Apply a pea-sized amount as a thin layer to the affected areas do not over-apply. Use only at night, as it may increase sun sensitivity. Avoid the eyes, mouth, and corners of the nose. Start with every other night if you have sensitive skin, then increase to daily as tolerated. Always use sunscreen during the day.
Tretinoin is measured by concentration and application frequency:
- Common strengths: 0.025%, 0.05%, or 0.1% cream or gel
- Start with the lowest strength once daily at night
- Increase strength or frequency only if advised by your doctor
